Palo Alto, Calif. – After a two-hour delay due to the morning fog, the No. 41 Nebraska Cornhuskers (3-1) upset No. 38 Vanderbilt (2-1), 5-2, in the first round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at Stanford’s Taube South.
Nebraska’s head coach Kerry McDermott called this afternoon’s victory over the Commodores a “signature win”.
“It was a good win against a good team and a good program,” McDermott said. “It was a step in the right direction. The guys fought hard and they never gave up.”
The Huskers began the match by losing the doubles point to the Commodores.
In singles play, the Huskers fought back to help secure the victory.
Playing in the No. 1 spot in the Huskers’ line-up was Christopher Aumueller who defeated No. 43 Ryan Lipman, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. NU’s No. 99 Calin Paar defeated, 6-4, 6-4, Vandy’s Adam Baker at the No. 2 spot.

With Friday’s victory over the Commodores, the Huskers will move onto the second round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend when they face No. 8 Stanford.
“We’re really looking forward to playing Stanford,” McDermott said. “They’re a quality team. It’s going to be fun playing on their campus and in their stadium.”
The Huskers will face off against Stanford Saturday, Jan. 29, at 1 p.m. CST at Stanford’s Taube Stadium.
