To get a win in the tough Big 12 Conference, you have to have a complete team effort. To get a win in the league when your team is riddled with injuries, you have to not only have a complete team effort, you have to have players step up and perform at a very high level. In Nebraska's 75-61 overtime win over Kansas last Saturday in Lincoln, the Huskers got career days from three veterans. Junior guard Kaitlyn Burke finished with a career-high 20 points, including four three-pointers, sophomore point guard Lindsey Moore added a career-high 23 points while senior center Catheryn Redmon produced her fourth double-double of the year with 15 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. It was Nebraska's first conference win of the season and the Huskers hope to carry that momentum in this Saturday's road game at Kansas State.
KSU is 12-5 overall and 2-2 in Big 12 games after Wednesday night's 66-63 win over Missouri in Manhattan. The Wildcats broke a two-game losing streak, both in narrow road losses, in improving to 9-0 at home this season.
5-8 sophomore guard Brittany Chambers has extreme range on her shots from beyond the arc and is one of the best rebounding guards in the nation. She leads KSU in scoring (14.2 ppg) and rebounding (5.9 rpg) and is fourth in the conference in three-point field goals made per game. 6-2 junior forward Jalana Childs has made strides to improve her offense this season and produced a career-high 21 points in the win over Missouri. She is KSU's leading scorer in league games and on the season is second on the team in scoring average (11.5 ppg). Prior to this season, her career scoring average was only 5.2 ppg.
5-8 sophomore guard Taelor Karr has scored in double figures nine times this season and is third on the team in scoring (10.2 ppg). 5-8 sophomore guard Mariah White has taken over at the point guard position for the Wildcats. She leads the team in assists and steals and adds 4.7 ppg. 5-11 freshman forward Chantay Caron rounds out K-State's probable starting lineup. She has started the last six games and adds 4.2 ppg.
Deb Patterson is the winningest coach in KSU women's basketball history. She has won 291 games in her 15 seasons in Manhattan, including two Big 12 regular season titles.
Nebraska has won four-straight games against Kansas State, although the Wildcats lead the all-time series 44-33. NU defeated KSU three times last season, including playing K-State in back-to-back games. The Huskers clinched a perfect regular season with a win in Manhattan on March 6, 2010 and then eliminated the Wildcats from the Big 12 Tournament one week later in Kansas City.
