Nebraska wins Capital City Collegiate Classic

The Nebraska bowling team finished in first-place at the Capital City Collegiate Classic held at the campus of Jackson State University this weekend. The Huskers finished with 9,023 pins, nearly 600 pins ahead of second-place Arkansas State University who tallied 8,452. Alabama A&M finished in third-place with a pinfall of 8,034.

Valerie Calberry led the way for the Huskers, finishing in first-place on the all-tournament team. She averaged 209 on the tournament. Other Huskers on the all-tournament team include Kristi Mickelson, who finished in second-place with an average of 208. Kayla Johnson finished fourth on the all-tournament team with a tournament average of 199.

"The first semester of competition is over," Nebraska Head Coach Bill Straub said. "The team is looking forward to preparing for the second semester."

Nebraska will now enjoy the holidays before returning to competition Jan. 14-16 at the Mid-Winter Classic in Jonesboro, Ark.
