Marlborough Earns Second Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year Award

Sophomore Morgan Marlborough has been named the 2010 Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, earning the award for the second straight season, while sophomore Jordan Jackson also earned a spot on the All-Big 12 First Team. Marlborough is only the sixth player in league history to earn multiple player of the year trophies, while Jackson's selection gives Nebraska at least two All-Big 12 picks for the 14th time in 15 seasons.

A native of Lee's Summit, Mo., Marlborough led the Big 12 Conference the entire year and ended the regular season ranked No. 1 in points (44), goals (16) and assists (12) to make her the first player in league history to lead the conference in all three categories. The forward's 44-point total was 15 more than any other player in the Big 12 and currently ranks second in the NCAA. Marlborough was exceptional in conference play, producing nine goals and nine assists in Big 12 matches. She had standout games in a 2-1 win over Texas on Sept. 24 by scoring both goals, while also producing five points (2 goals, 1 assist) in a 4-1 victory over Iowa State on Oct. 8. In only two seasons, Marlborough has risen to No. 8 on the NU all-time points chart with 93 career points. Last season, she won both the 2009 Big 12 Offensive Player and Rookie of the Year awards.

Jackson earned a spot on the 2010 All-Big 12 First Team as she has turned in a breakout sophomore season. The Overland Park, Kan., native tied Texas A&M's Alyssa Mautz for the second-highest scoring total in the Big 12 with 29 points on 10 goals (Tie-No. 4 in Big 12) and nine assists (Tie-No. 2 in Big 12). Jackson also had a five-point game (2 goals, 1 assist) in the 5-4 overtime thriller at Texas Tech on Oct. 3 and led NU with four game-winning goals in 2010.

Marlborough and Jackson give Nebraska 70 All-Big 12 selections in program history, including 44 first-team honors. The sophomore duo leads the Huskers into this week's Big 12 Championship in San Antonio as No. 3 Nebraska takes on No. 6 Missouri on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
