Stenger, Lindheim Advance at D?Novo/ITA-All American Championships

Tulsa, Okla.---Andre Stenger and Benedikt Lindheim got the Nebraska men's tennis team off to a good start at the D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., on Saturday, Oct. 2. The pair of Huskers both advanced to the third round of pre-qualifying bracket, which will be played on Sunday. Lindheim and Stenger were the only two Huskers participating in the pre-qualifying bracket.

Lindheim (NU) continued his solid spring by defeating Michael Alford (Fla.) in dominating fashion 6-2, 6-1, in the second round after receiving a bye in the first round. The junior has now won a team-high six matches this fall.

Stenger advanced by winning his first round match against Phil Anderson (N.M) 6-4, 7-6, before taking down Giovanni Vaglietti (San Diego State) 6-3, 6-4, in the second round. Head coach Kerry McDermott was impressed with both of his players after Saturday's performances.

"Andre and Benedikt played very well today," McDermott said. "They need to continue to be confident in themselves and come out and play aggressive. They were excited for this tournament."

Third and fourth round pre-qualifying matches will be played on Sunday, Oct. 3. The winners of each pre-qualifying bracket will advance to the qualifying bracket which will start on Monday, Oct. 4.
