Los Angeles, Cali. - Two members of the Nebraska women's tennis team saw action on the first day of the ITA Riviera All-American Championships. Both Madeleine Geibert and Patricia Veresova competed in pre-qualifying singles for NU.
Geibert was defeated by Kayla Rizzolo from the University of Miami. Veresova won her first round over Selma Salkovic of DePaul University. In the second round, Veresova was defeated by Sona Novakova from Baylor.
This concludes singles play for the Huskers competing at the tournament. Geibert and Stefanie Weinstein will begin play in qualifying doubles on Tuesday.
"It was a great effort by both Patricia and Madeleine today," assistant coach Hayden Perez said. "They both played well and competed hard, and we improved even in our losses. These kids are working hard and looking forward to regionals in a few weeks. We will now focus on doubles beginning on Tuesday."
