Three members of the Nebraska women's tennis team will compete at the ITA Riviera All-American Championships this weekend in Los Angeles, Calif.
Madeleine Geibert, Stefanie Weinstein and Patricia Veresova will represent the Huskers at the tournament at the nine-day event that runs Oct. 2-10.
Geibert will be competing in the pre-qualifying singles draw and the qualifying doubles draw. Weinstein will compete in qualifying doubles with Geibert and will also be on standby to play pre-qualifying singles, should there be a last-second withdrawal. Veresova will be in the pre-qualifying singles only. NU player Mary Weatherholt was slated to compete in qualifying singles and pre-qualifying doubles with Veresova, but was forced to withdraw due to illness.
The ITA Riviera All-American Championships mark the first of three individual national championship events of the year. The tournament consists of a pre-qualifying draw of 64 players, a qualifying draw of 64 players and a main draw of 32 players. Selections for the tournament are based on several factors, including national rankings and regional representation. The prestigious tournament includes the largest field of the three national championships.
"We have tradtionally had players invited each year, and we've had some success out there," assistant coach Hayden Perez said. "This tournament is extremely tough and we are facing the best competition in the country."
