Three Huskers Advance at All-American Championships

Tulsa, Okla.---The Nebraska men's tennis team advanced three players past the first round of the Qualifying Bracket at the D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., on Monday. No. 49 Calin Paar, No. 61 Christopher Aumueller, and Benedikt Lindheim all won their matches in the first round to advance to the second round which will begin Tuesday morning.

Lindheim (Nebraska) advances to the second round after barely making the Qualifying bracket. The junior lost in the finals of his Pre-Qualifying Bracket on Sunday, Oct. 3, but was one of five "Lucky Losers" to be accepted into the Qualifying Bracket late Sunday night. Lindheim made sure to take advantage of his opportunity by defeating Arthur Surreaux (New Mexico State) 6-3, 6-1. Lindheim's victory marks his team-leading seventh of the victory of the fall.

In his first singles action of the fall, Aumeuller (Nebraska) defeated fellow Big 12 foe Vasko Mladenov (Texas) in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Aumueller entered the tournament as the No. 61-ranked player in the country and was playing in his first match of the fall after being limited by injury.

The Huskers also claimed a victory from No. 49 Paar. The senior took down Remi Boutillier (Fresno State) 6-4, 6-2, in the first round. Both Paar and Aumueller automatically qualified for the Qualifying Bracket. Head coach Kerry McDermott thinks the Huskers are primed to have a big tournament after advancing all three players.

"Our guys played extremely well today," McDermott said. "Benedikt played unbelievably well. It was good to see him bounce back after losing in the finals of the pre-qualifying. They guys are playing really, really strong mentally right now. They can have a very good tournament if they continue to play at this level and with this much focus."

All three Huskers will play their second round matches at the Case Tennis Center on Tuesday, Oct. 5. Doubles play will also begin on Tuesday with first and second round matches set to take place. A schedule of the doubles matches for tomorrow is below, along with Monday's results. Check back to Huskers.com for more updates on the Husker tennis team at the ITA All-American Championships.
