Lindheim Falls in Final of Pre-Qualifying Bracket in Tulsa

Tulsa,Okla.--- Andre Stenger and Benedikt Lindheim saw their tournament runs come to an end on Sunday, Oct. 3, at the D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The two Huskers each needed to win two matches on Sunday to advance to the qualifying bracket which begins on Monday.

Lindheim (NU) started the day off on the right foot by defeating Jeremy Tweedt (Hawai'I at Monoa) in straight sets to move into the final of his bracket. Needing a victory to advance to Monday's action, Lindheim fell short against Clay Thompson (UCLA) 7-6, 6-1, ending his tournament. Head coach Kerry McDermott was encouraged by the play of Lindheim

"He had a very good match to start the day," McDermott said. "He is starting to believe in himself more and more, and you can see it on the court. He just needs to keep improving every day."

Stenger wasn't as fortunate in his first match falling to Juan Spir (GT) in three sets 5-7, 6-1, 7-5. Spir was the No. 2 seed in the pre-qualifying bracket.

Christopher Aumueller (NU) and Calin Paar (NU) will begin their tournament in the qualifying bracket which begins on Monday, Oct. 4. The Huskers will also have two doubles teams in action as Paar and Aumueller will team up, along with Lindheim and Stenger. Check back to Huskers.com for more updates on the Husker tennis team.
