Huskers Face Softball Stars on Saturday

Lincoln - Bowlin Stadium will showcase some of softball's biggest stars on Saturday, when Nebraska hosts a doubleheader with a collection of all-stars from the National ProFastpitch league beginning at Noon.

Some of the stars scheduled to play on Saturday as part of the NPF's "Back to School Tour - presented by USSSA" include U.S. Olympians Cat Osterman, Andrea Duran, Vicky Galindo and Lauren Lappin. Former Husker Nicole Trimboli is also scheduled to appear, while the 11-player roster combined for more than 15 NFCA All-America awards in college and six Olympic appearances, including one Gold Medal winner and four silver medalists.

Tickets for Saturday's doubleheader can be purchased online or at the Bowlin Stadium ticket office on Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m. All seating will be general admission and tickets cost $5 for adults and $3 for youth. Children under 6 will be admitted for free, as will UNL students with a valid student ID. Fans unable to make it to the ballpark can watch a free live video stream of both games on Huskers.com.

The NPF "Back To School Tour" kicked off on Sept. 10 at the University of Memphis with a doubleheader sweep of the Tigers by a combined score of 26-1. The squad also traveled to Mississippi last week, defeating the Rebels 15-0 in five innings, and the all-stars face UMKC on Thursday and Missouri Western on Friday.

The all-stars will make over 15 stops on college campuses across the United States competing against some of the nation's best college programs. Trips to Arizona, New Mexico State, UTEP, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Tulsa, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida State, Florida, San Diego State, Texas, and Daytona Beach are still to come before the tour wraps up on Nov. 15.

Nebraska has played six exhibition contests this fall, sweeping doubleheaders against UNO and Creighton and splitting a pair of games with Wayne State. Saturday's doubleheader will mark the end of the Huskers' fall season.

Saturday will also be a historic day at Bowlin Stadium, as following the conclusion of the first game, the Huskers will officially retire the No. 42 jersey worn by All-American Peaches James. A reception will then be held in her honor on Saturday evening.
