Lincoln - Head Coach Dan Kendig announced the Nebraska women's gymnastics team's complete schedule for the 2011 season on Tuesday. NU's docket includes meets with five of last year's top 10 nationally ranked teams, as well as five opponents from the national top 25.
The Huskers will welcome Utah, Oklahoma, Arizona State and Iowa State to the Devaney Center for regular-season duals in 2011, along with playing host to Bowling Green, Iowa and Kentucky in the Masters Classic.
Nebraska, which has reached the NCAA Championships 10 of the last 12 years, will prepare for the NCAA Championships by facing national powerhouses Oklahoma, Alabama, Stanford, Florida, Utah, LSU and Michigan. Oklahoma finished 2010 as the national runner-up, Alabama completed the season as third, Stanford took fourth, while Florida came in fifth, Utah ended the season at sixth, LSU was ninth and Michigan came in 10th.
NU returns four Huskers who earned four All-America honors in 2010. In addition, NU will see contributions from the reigning Big 12 vault and NCAA Lexington Regional vault and bars champions.
In five home competitions at the Bob Devaney Sports Center, the Huskers will feature four Sunday afternoon competitions on their slate, as well as an evening meet on a Saturday. The team will join the Nebraska men's gymnastics squad for its only double-dual of the year on March 6.
Nebraska opens the year at Florida on Jan. 7 in Gainesville, Fla., then travels to Ames, Iowa for the first conference meet of the season with Iowa State on Jan. 14. The Huskers then return home to host Utah on Saturday, Jan. 22 in their first home meet of the season.
After traveling to Fort Worth, Texas on Jan. 9 to battle Missouri, Alabama and LSU in the Metroplex Challenge, NU will hit the road again to face Missouri for the second-straight week on Feb. 4 in Columbia, Mo. The Huskers return home immediately for a Sunday afternoon dual with Oklahoma on Feb. 6.
The Huskers will take on Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Feb. 13 and head to Denver, Colo. for a meet with Denver on Feb. 19. Nebraska then begins a string of home meets beginning with Bowling Green, Iowa and Kentucky in the Masters Classic on Feb. 27. NU will host Arizona State on March 6 and will conclude the regular season with a home meet against Big 12 foe Iowa State on March 13.
Entering the run for a solid postseason showing, NU will travel to Missouri for a second time on March 19 to battle at the 2011 Big 12 Championships. The annual conference meet, which Nebraska has won eight times in 13 seasons, is followed by an NCAA Regional on April 2 and the 2011 NCAA Championships in Cleveland, Ohio, April15-17.
