Charlottesville, Va.-- The Nebraska men’s tennis team completed a productive first day at the UVa Ranked Plus One Invitational on Friday, Sept. 24, by sending two singles players into the winner’s side of their respective brackets. Beneditk Lindheim (NU) advanced in the A-1 singles bracket, while Andre Stenger (NU) won his first round match in the A-2 singles bracket.
Lindheim was most impressive in his match defeating No. 82 Charles Bottoni (ETSU) in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. The win marks Lindheim’s fourth straight since dropping his first match at the UVa Fall Classic on Sept. 10. The junior will have another chance to take down a nationally ranked opponent as he is set to take on No. 27 Drew Courtney (UVa) on Saturday.
Stenger took down ACC-foe Chris Mengel (Duke) 6-3, 6-4, in the first round of the A-2 singles bracket to be the only other Husker to win in singles play. Stenger will match up against No. 52 Luka Somen (VT) in Friday’s second round match.
In other singles actoin, No. 49 Calin Paar (NU) fell to Matteo Fago (Tenn.) in three sets, while Amogh Prabhakar (Wake) defeated Sebastian Florcyzk (NU) 6-3, 7-6 (2), in his Husker debut.
In doubles play, Paar and Stenger advanced to the final of the back draw in the A-4 doubles bracket by defeating Pinsky and Saba (Duke) after dropping their first round match. Lindheim and Florcyzk dropped their first two doubles matches.
The Huskers will continue play on Friday with second and third round matches set to take place. Check back to Huskers.com for results from UVa Ranked Plus One Invitational.
