Midland, Texas – The Huskers finished up play at the Midland Invitational on Saturday. The Big Red finished with a 6-4 record in singles and a 1-2 record in doubles play. All four Huskers in attendance again saw action on day two of the tournament.
Madeleine Geibert was defeated in the third round of singles action in a hard-fought loss to Mariaryeni Gutierrez of Lamar University. In doubles, Geibert and Stefanie Weinstein were defeated by Anamika Bhargava and Maria Zalameda of Pepperdine in a tiebreaker match during quarterfinals.
In her own singles play, Weinstein was also defeated by Anamika Bhargava of Pepperdine.
Patricia Veresova was defeated by Christi Liles of Texas A&M in singles action.
In the consolation bracket, Janine Weinreich defeated Hailey Fournier of Texas Tech and ended her tournament play on a positive note.
“I am very proud of the girls this weekend,” said Assistant Coach Hayden Perez. “They represented Nebraska with class and integrity and can hold their heads high after the weekend. This was a good starting point for this year.”
The Huskers will continue fall tournament play at the Riviera All-American tournament in Los Angeles, Calif. on Oct. 2-10, 2010.
