Huskers Open Fall Season in Texas

Four members of Nebraska women's tennis team will travel to the Midland Invitational in Texas to open the Huskers 2010 fall campaign, Sept. 17-19.

Junior Madeleine Geibert, who was one of the driving forces behind Nebraska's run to the second round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament, will be joined in Texas by sophomores Stefanie Weinstein, Janine Weinreich and Patricia Veresova.

Geibert will be making her third consecutive appearance at Midland, where she has advanced to the quarterfinals each of the past two seasons.

Weinstein will make a return trip to the Midland Invitational as well, while Weinreich and Veresova will be making their first trip to the invitational.

"We obviously want our kids to gain some match experience early in the season," Nebraska assistant coach Hayden Perez said. "Coach Jacobson wants to see the players competing hard and giving a great effort, and then let the results be what they may. It should be a positive experience for all them."

Junior Mary Weatherholt gave Nebraska plenty of success at the Midland Invitational over the past two years. Weatherholt won the tournament in 2008 and advanced to the finals in 2009.

Other teams that will be represented in the 2010 Midland Invitational field include Baylor, Penn State, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Pepperdine and UT-Arlington.
