Postgame Quotes
Nebraska 38, Idaho 17
Sept. 11, 2010
Memorial Stadium (Lincoln, Neb.)
On what he told the team after the game
"I just told the defense they played their tails off, the front line guys. I didn't like the way we finished with some of the second and third group guys. Offensively, we did some good things. The attention to detail, putting the ball on the ground, the penalties, we looked like an undisciplined football team and a careless football team. We'll get that fixed. That wasn't to our standard. I told them, I'm pretty honest with our group, defensively I wasn't happy last week and offensively they just got a good you know what chewing. They know, we have high standards around this place. You saw it, it was pretty obvious. We were careless, we were careless with the ball, and we were undisciplined and made too many penalties."
On if he wanted the quarterback to take more control
"It goes well beyond the quarterback. It was a lot more than the quarterback out there playing. It wasn't just one guy."
On if the offense lost focus when the defense scores touchdowns like that
"There are no excuses. We play one way and that is to execute. That is to play to an extremely high standard. I don't want to hear anything about the defense, did they relax? No. That's a bunch of b-s. That isn't what we're about around this place. We play with a high standard. You have to live up to the standard if you walk out on the field and you're one of 11. If you're not, it's time to go find a different program. Our attention to detail needs to pick up, our attitude needs to pick up and our standard needs to pick up. We'll get that fixed this week. We'll be fully ready as a football team to go to Seattle. I can promise you that."
On if they saw on film from Idaho the opportunities they were able to create on defense
"Our guys played well, they executed the calls. They executed what we did. They executed the game plan. It had nothing to do with Idaho. We're fine, if we do our thing we're a good football team. When we do it the way we're coached and we play within the schemes and we execute, we're a damn good football team. We have to take care of ourselves, that's what we didn't do today."
On improvement from game one to game two
"It's pretty obvious. I think I just covered that. In some areas we obviously did improve, in other areas we didn't. We took a step back. Once again, we need to put four quarters on both sides of the football together."
On the defense getting six takeaways today
"It's huge. That is what we talk about, about attacking the football. Like I said, defensively we stepped up, those guys played well. We played very well defensively, we did a lot of good things. Now we weren't perfect, but I saw a lot of good things."
On the second quarter spurt where they scored four times in a row
"That's what we can be when we're executing and doing things the right way. Like I said, when we're hitting we're a pretty good football team. We lost our focus and something happened in there. That is our fault as coaches, that won't happen again."
