Future Huskers Green and Wright Finish Fifth at World Juniors

Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada – The Nebraska track and field team was represented by two future Huskers over the past week at the IAAF World Junior Championships. Hosted at the Stade de Moncton, 400-meter hurdler Jack Green (Maidstone, U.K.) and thrower Chad Wright (Kingston, Jamaica) competed for their home countries before they make the trip to Lincoln in August to prepare for the 2011 collegiate season.

 

Green started with a time of 52.16 on Wednesday in the preliminaries and followed with a 51.14 in the semifinals on Thursday. He saved the best race of his career for the finals, where he broke his previous best of 50.86 with a fifth-place time of 50.49.

 

After placing 14th in the shot put on Wednesday, Wright competed in the discus finals on Saturday afternoon. A product of Calabar High School in Kingston, Jamaica, Wright took fifth with a toss of 197-11. After the first three throws Wright sat fourth with his mark of 197-11, but was passed during the final three throws by Mykyta Nesterenko of the Ukraine.
