Powell, White Lead 17 Huskers on Big 12 Commissioner?s Honor Roll

Lincoln - Recently-graduated senior Shay Powell and junior Anna White each achieved a 4.0 grade-point average during the spring 2010 semester to headline a group of 17 Nebraska soccer players on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll. The conference honor requires at least a 3.0 grade-point average, in which 15 individuals were repeat selections from the fall 2009 term.

The duo was among 42 Nebraska student-athletes to turn in a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. White, a senior-to-be for the 2010 Huskers, is a family sciences major from Warrensburg, Mo. Her spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll is her sixth in a row, while she is also a two-time First-Team Academic All-Big 12 selection. Powell graduated from Nebraska in May 2010 with a pre-law psychology degree. The Dallas, Texas native earned a spot on the conference honor roll for the eighth consecutive semester to conclude an impressive career that saw her become a 2009 ESPN The Magazine Second-Team Academic All-America selection.

Juniors Colleen Goetzmann (Business Administration; Omaha, Neb.) and Jessica Mills (Biological Systems Engineering; Houston, Texas) each tallied their sixth-straight honors, while Jaclyn White gained her fifth (Accounting; Long Beach, Calif.). Sophomore Katie Goetzmann (Business Administration, Omaha; Neb.) led a group of three sophomores with her sixth accolade, followed by Alexa Cardona (Business Administration; Lincoln, Neb.) and Blair Slapper (Marketing; Prairie Village, Kan.).

Four freshmen earned a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll for the second-straight semester in Bri Badje (Undeclared; Lincoln, Neb.), Jordan Jackson (Dietetics and Nutrition, Exercise and Health Science; Overland Park, Kan.), Morgan Marlborough (Elementary Education; Lee's Summit, Mo.) and Emma Stevens (Pre-Medicine, Corona, Calif.). In addition, classmate Stacy Bartels (Pre-Dentistry, Omaha, Neb.) was a first-time honoree to put NU's entire 2009-10 freshmen class on the list.

In addition to Powell, Julie Berkshire (Business Administration; Omaha, Neb.) and Shannon Dickerson (Marketing; Highlands Ranch, Colo.) also made the honor roll after obtaining degrees in May 2010.

Seniors Lauren Isenhower (International Business; Lenexa, Kan.) and Brittney Lanier (Classics & Religious Studies; Carrollton, Texas) each earned their seventh honor. Isenhower is in graduate school at the University of Nebraska, while Lanier is on track to graduate this December.

A total of 328 Nebraska student-athletes across all 23 varsity sports claimed spots on the honor roll.
