Lincoln - Following a week-long camp in San Diego, incoming Nebraska midfielder Ari Romero has received an invitation to the Mexico Under-20 Women's National Team training camp this week in Mexico City. Romero is attempting to make Mexico's final roster cut that will participate in the 2010 FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup this summer in Germany.
A native of Surprise, Ariz., Romero is a member of Nebraska's 2010 signing class that sent in their National Letters of Intent in February. She has demonstrated her potential in club soccer with the Sereno 92 Golden Eagles, helping her team to eight state championships and three Region IV semifinal appearances. Last year, Romero was on the 2009 Arizona Olympic Development Program squad that advanced to the semifinals of the Regional IV Championship.
Romero is the third Husker on the 2010 roster to participate with a national team in the past five months, joining junior Molly Thomas (U.S. Under-23) and sophomore Morgan Marlborough (U.S. Under-20).
