Huskers Defeat Creighton in Spring Finale

Lincoln/Omaha - Behind a strong second-half effort, the Nebraska soccer team ended the 2010 spring season on a strong note by defeating Creighton, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon in Omaha. The match was the second game of a doubleheader, as the Huskers dropped a 4-2 decision to Minnesota in the morning contest at the Nebraska Soccer Field.

After trailing 1-0 at the beginning of the second half against the Bluejays, the Husker offense fired up in the final 40 minutes. Stacy Bartels began the scoring to knot the game at 1-1 off an assist from Blair Slapper, while Michaella Fulmer added the eventual game-winning goal. Alexa Cardona added an insurance goal assisted by Morgan Marlborough to preserve the 3-1 victory. Emma Stevens turned in a complete-game effort in the net, allowing only one CU goal.

Fulmer enjoyed a highly successful day, as she also had two assists in the 4-2 morning defeat to the Golden Gophers. Jordan Jackson scored both goals in the match, but the Huskers were unable to overcome a 3-1 second half deficit.

With the completion of the 2010 spring season, Nebraska now looks toward the fall when the Huskers aim for the NCAA Tournament on the strength of eight returning starters. NU brings back two of the conference's best performers in 2009 Big 12 Player of the Year Morgan Marlborough and Second-Team All-Big 12 selection Molly Thomas.

The 2010 schedule will be released early this summer.
