Columbia, Mo. - The Nebraska men's golf team capped off its regular season with its second tournament title of the spring, as the Huskers edged out Kansas State for the team title at the Mizzou Intercollegiate at The Club at Old Hawthorne on Tuesday. NU scored a day-best 285 in the final round to total 857 (-7) for the tournament, one stroke ahead of the Wildcats.
The Huskers were led by senior Brandon Crick, who tied for first but lost on the fourth playoff hole to the Wildcats' Curtis Yonke. Crick and Yonke entered the day as part of a four-way tie for the lead, but both separated themselves from the others with final round 71s to put them at 211 (-5) for the tournament. The finish marked Crick's fifth top-five finish this year and third in the top three.
Andrew Wyatt moved into his fifth top-10 finish of the year after a final-round 70 put him at 216 and in a tie for ninth. Wyatt's 70 was the second-best score posted in the final round. Mike Coatman rebounded from two uncharacteristic tournaments in a row to post a 219, his best score since the Fairway Club Invitational in September. Coatman tied for 15th overall.
Brett Nymeyer continued his string of good play with a tie for 18th in Columbia. Nymeyer's 71 on Tuesday put him at 220 for the tournament. Scott Willman rounded out the NU lineup in a tie for 23rd at 222.
After a four-year drought without a tournament win, the Huskers have won two in a one-month span. NU captured the Jackrabbit Invitational on March 16. The Huskers hope to continue turning in low scores at the Big 12 Championships, which begin next Friday, April 23. The Mizzou Intercollegiate offered a good warmup, as the Huskers edged out four Big 12 opponents to win the title.
