Colorado Springs, Colo. - Nebraska rifle freshman Janine Dutton finished fifth in the air rifle competition of the 2010 National Junior Olympic Championships Saturday at the Olympic Training Center.
Dutton finished with an 889.9 total after firing a 394, a 396 and a 99.9 in the finals to earn fifth place in the 118-shooter field. TCU's Sarah Scherer, who won the NCAA smallbore national championship last month, captured the title. Dutton ahd Scherer were tied for first heading into the final round of shooting.
Competitors qualified for the National Junior Olympics through state matches over the past few months. The National Junior Olympics will aid in the selection of athletes for the 2010 USA National Junior Team competing at the World Shooting Championships this August in Munich, Germany.
