As regular season league champions, the Nebraska Women's Basketball team gets the top seed and a first-round bye in this week's Big 12 Championship Tournament in Kansas City. The Huskers will play Friday morning at 11 a.m. (central) and will face the winner of Thursday's matchup between #8 Texas Tech and #9 Kansas State. Nebraska has had quite a week already, with every one of their five starters being honored by the Big 12 Conference in a bevy of post-season awards.

6-2 senior forward Kelsey Griffin was named Big 12 Player of the Year. She joins NU legends Karen Jennings and Maurtice Ivy as the only Nebraska players to ever be named conference player of the year. Jennings received the award from the Big Eight in 1992 and 1993 while Ivy was honored by the Big Eight in 1988. 5-8 senior guard Yvonne Turner was named conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Griffin and Turner were both named to the league all-Defense Team. 6-2 senior forward Cory Montgomery joined Griffin and Turner on the Big 12 First Team All-Conference list, while 5-7 junior guard Dominique Kelley was named Honorable Mention All-Conference. Finally, 5-9 freshman point guard Lindsey Moore was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman squad. It is quite an amazing feat to have the entire starting five of one team all named to post-season league honors!

Eighth-year Husker Head Coach Connie Yori was named Big 12 Coach of the Year. She has led Nebraska to uncharted heights in this special season. NU is undefeated (29-0), regular season champions of the Big 12 for the first time in school history, ranked third in both major polls, the highest ranking ever in program history, and are in the midst of a conference record 29-game winning streak to start a season. Yori was also named one of ten finalists for the inaugural Kay Yow National Coach of the Year Award.

If the Huskers emerge victorious Friday afternoon, they will tie the Big 12 record for longest winning streak at 30 games. Baylor currently holds the record. The Lady Bears won 30 consecutive games between the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons, sandwiched around the '05 National Championship. Ironically, the last team to defeat Baylor before they went on their long winning streak was Nebraska. The Huskers 103-99 triple-overtime win over BU was one of the all-time epic games in the history of Nebraska Women's Basketball.
