NU to Establish Branchaud Scholarship

The Nebraska Athletic Department announced on Monday, Feb. 22, the establishment of the Kathy Branchaud Memorial Women's Basketball Scholarship Fund to honor the life of former player and Fastbreaker Booster Club board member Kathy Branchaud.

Branchaud passed away on Feb. 11, 2010 at the age of 58, following an extended battle with cancer. A club player at Nebraska before women's basketball was established as a varsity sport, Branchaud was a long-time supporter of Husker women's basketball and served the Fastbreaker Booster Club in a variety of capacities.

Branchaud was honored with a moment of silence on Saturday before Nebraska's win over Colorado at the Devaney Center. The game was also Nebraska's WBCA Pink Zone game, which promotes cancer awareness and support for people in their fights with cancer.

The Kathy Branchaud Memorial Scholarship will be presented to sophomores, juniors or seniors on the Nebraska women's basketball team. Senior recipients must demonstrate a commitment to pursuing a post-graduate education at the University of Nebraska. Candidates must maintain a 3.2 or above cumulative grade-point average.
