Huskers Open Season With Four Matches in Six Days
The Nebraska women's tennis team opens its season this week as it prepares for four hom matches in just six days, beginning with in-state foe Creighton on Jan. 26, marking the fourth straight year the Huskers have began their season with a home match against Creighton.

NU will take on another in-state foe the day after the Creighton match, as Nebraska-Kearney comes to Lincoln for a Wednesday afternoon contest. The Huskers then welcome a pair of ranked opponents to the Nebraska Tennis Center this weekend, against No. 74 Wichita State on Friday, Jan. 29, and against No. 69 Minnesota on Sunday, Jan. 31.

Head Coach Scott Jacobson is entering his 19th season at the helm of the Nebraska women's tennis team. He is closing in on his 250th career victory - he entered the season with 243 career wins. Joining him on the coaching staff is assistant coach Hayden Perez, who is in his fifth year at Nebraska.

This week's matches are part of a 14-match homestand to start the season for the Huskers. Nebraska won't hit the road for a match until March 19, when it travels to California to take on Long Beach State.

Nebraska Ranked No. 55 in Preseason Polls
The Huskers are ranked No. 55 in the ITA Preseason polls, released on Jan. 5. The ranking is fourth among Big 12 teams, behind Baylor (No. 5), Texas (No. 31) and Texas A&M (No. 37). Nebraska finished fourth in the Big 12 last season behind those three teams. Sophomore Mary Weatherholt is also ranked nationally in singles play, as she starts the season ranked No. 116 in the country. Weatherholt broke the school record for singles wins in a season (36) last year.
