Seniors Larry Asante and Phillip Dillard will represent Nebraska in the 2010 Senior Bowl this Saturday in Mobile, Ala. The two defensive standouts are beginning practice in Mobile Monday, leading up to the game on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. The contest will be televised by the NFL Network.
Asante and Dillard each played key roles in Nebraska's impressive defensive effort in 2009. Both players are on the North squad, which is being coached by Detroit Head Coach Jim Schwartz and his Lions staff.
The 6-1, 215-pound Asante safety finished his Nebraska career as the third-leading tackler in school history among defensive backs. Asante's standout play as a senior helped form a Blackshirt defense that was among the most dominant in school history. Asante finished the year with 79 tackles, two interceptions, seven pass breakups and two forced fumbles. He earned first-team All-Big 12 honors and helped Nebraska lead the nation in scoring defense and pass efficiency defense.
Dillard patrolled the middle of the Nebraska defense from his linebacker position and finished second on the team with 83 tackles, including 45 solo stops. The Tulsa native added 11 tackles for loss and three sacks, along with an interception, three pass breakups and a fumble caused. Dillard put up his impressive numbers despite not playing in the first two games of the 2009 season.
