Lincoln ? Prior to hosting the adidas Classic on Saturday, the Nebraska track and field team competed at the NWU Invitational, hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan, on Friday at the Devaney Center Indoor Track. With just a small group of athletes in competition, the Huskers came away with three victories.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
Tyrell Ross captured the Huskers’ first win of the day with a time of 8.04 in the 60-meter hurdles. On the women’s side of the hurdles, Karyn LaCour ran the top collegiate time at 8.65, but was unable to rundown former Husker and Olympic medalist Priscilla Lopes-Schliep, who blazed an 8.12. Leandra McGruder then added another win in the sprints for NU with a 60-meter time of 7.84.
The Huskers then picked a win in the jumps, with Lorena Menghia victory in the women’s high jump. Menghia soared high above the competition as she cleared 5-7 1/4, while no other jumper in the field cleared more than 5-3 1/4.
The Huskers will be back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m., when they host Kansas State, Missouri, Air Force, Colorado State and Wichita State for the adidas Classic, which is a scored meet and will have a separate men’s and women’s team champion. Fans will be treated to $1 admission and $1 24 oz. Pepsi products during the meet, as the special is part of the athletic department’s ?Pepsi Pack the House’ promotion schedule.
