Lawrence, Kan. - The Nebraska swimming and diving team fell to the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence on Saturday afternoon, 182-109. The Huskers snapped a three-meet win streak and fell to 3-2 on the year in dual meets with the loss, including 0-1 in Big 12 play.
The Jayhawks raced out to a quick start, winning the first 12 events of the dual, and Nebraska was never able to recover. The Huskers got second-place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke and 500-yard freestyle during that stretch.
Kelsey Grushecky gave NU its first event win of the day when she won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.16. Nebraska's relay team of Grushecky, Mariah Hutchinson, Ariel Weech and Hailey Dean placed first in the final event of the day, the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Hutchinson had three second-place finishes on the day in the 100-, 200- and 500-yard freestyles. Kaitlin Arntz also had a pair second-place finishes in the 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard IM.
Kaitlan Walker had the best showing on the diving boards for the Huskers, finishing third in the one meter and second in the three meter.
The Huskers have next weekend off before returning home on Jan. 30 against Iowa State, which is also Senior Day, as the Huskers will honor NU's seven seniors in their final home meet of the season.
