Huskers Finish Second Intrasquad

Lincoln- The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team held it’s second intrasquad meet of the year at the Devaney Center Sunday in preparation for the 2010 season. Despite snow in the area, the Huskers were able to perform in front of a crowd for the last time before opening the season in less than a month.

“I thought today was really good for us,” Head Coach Dan Kendig said. “I already know some of the things that we need to get back into the gym and work on, but that is what an intrasquad is meant for.”

NU performed routines on every event, competing in Olympic order. The team gained valuable experience performing at the Devaney Center. Practicing in the arena helps the Huskers get acquainted to the feel what their competitions will be like during the season.

“It’s great to get in the Devaney and practice with the different lighting and set-up from our normal practice facility,” Kendig said. “Especially for the freshmen, it’s good for them to get out here and deal with the nerves a little bit. We’re excited about what we think can transpire this season.”

NU opens its 2010 season at Washington on Jan. 8. The Huskers’ home opener is Jan. 15 against Minnesota and Illinois. Nebraska hosts the 2010 Big 12 Championships March 27 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center at 2 p.m.
