Griesch's The Word - Dec. 16

Can you hear it? It's the buzz about women's basketball around the city of Lincoln and the state of Nebraska.

The Huskers are 10-0, ranked No. 18 nationally in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll and No. 20 by the Associated Press. Nebraska owns a school-record 10-game winning streak and they are getting set to battle one of only 13 unbeatens left standing among the 345 NCAA Division I teams in the nation, No. 5 LSU on Sunday, Dec. 20 at 1:05 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

The buzz is reaching beyond the state's borders as well. Wednesday afternoon, Associated Press national writer Eric Olson published an excellent story about the momentum the Huskers have built early this season and the return of Naismith Trophy and All-America candidate Kelsey Griffin.

Here's the link, which SI.com (Sports Illustrated) published just minutes after Eric's story hit the wire.

The reach of the Huskers' early season run has also stretched as far as Anchorage, Alaska. Not surprisingly, Griffin's hometown paper wanted to catch up with the 2005 Alaska High School Player of the Year to check up on her and Nebraska's success.

Here's a link to Richard Larson's story in the Alaska Daily News. It offers Kelsey's insight on her career so far, and the long journey she has had to a successful senior season.
