Huskers Jump to No. 20 in AP Poll

Lincoln - The Nebraska women’s basketball team climbed four spots to No. 20 in the Associated Press Top 25 when the national rankings were announced on Monday afternoon.

The 10-0 Huskers, who are one of only 13 remaining unbeaten teams among the 345 NCAA Division I women's basketball schools, doubled their previous week's point total from 131 to 262 after rolling to double-digit wins over Creighton (69-56) on Dec. 9, and Northern Illinois (69-44) on Dec. 13. The win over the Huskies on Sunday gave Nebraska the best start in school history while setting a school record with a 10-game winning streak.

Nebraska joined the top 20 in the AP national rankings for the first time since being ranked 19th the week of Feb. 12, 2007.

Nebraska is one of six Big 12 Conference teams in the rankings and the only unbeaten team remaining in the league. Baylor is ranked No. 6 in this week’s poll, while Texas A&M is No. 13. Oklahoma is ranked 15th, and Texas is No. 17. Kansas is ranked No. 23, while Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Iowa State are also receiving votes in the poll.

The Huskers will welcome another unbeaten top-20 team to Lincoln this weekend, when No. 20 Nebraska plays host to No. 5 LSU (7-0) on Sunday, Dec. 20, at 1:05 p.m. The Tigers will play a pair of games this week in Baton Rouge, La., at the Sue Gunter Classic, Dec. 15-16. LSU takes on Houston Baptist Tuesday, before playing the winner of Louisiana-Lafayette and North Carolina A&T on Wednesday.

Nebraska has not beaten a top-five team at the Devaney Center since knocking off No. 2 Baylor, 103-99 in triple overtime on Jan. 12, 2005. The Lady Bears went on to win the 2005 NCAA title. The Huskers own seven victories over top-25 foes at the Devaney Center since beating Baylor in 2005, including three wins over top-15 opponents.
