Nebraska vs. Iowa State Quotes

Nebraska Post-Match Quotes
Head Coach John Cook
Opening Statement
"I told our team that we prepared really well and we followed a great game plan tonight. We executed at a really high level. We held a top ten team to .096 hitting percentage, under .300, we did a really nice job. Sydney (Anderson) did a nice job of following our offensive game plan and Eric (Sullivan) coordinated our blocking and defense. (He did) a super job of that. It was a good night for us."

On the feelings of the teams in the first set
"I know both teams were really nervous, it's hard not to be. I think we just probably handled it a little bit better with adrenalin and emotion. I think maybe Iowa State, it took them a while to get into it. We knew we had a shot to get on them early and we took advantage of it."

On the dominance the team displayed tonight
"I don't know if I am surprised. When I look at the stats I am a little bit more surprised, I didn't feel like it was that dominant. Those are some pretty distinct values in the stats. I really liked how we stayed with our game plan tonight. I think we got to Iowa State's setter a little bit. I don't think she was sure, things weren't working for her very well. That was the biggest thing, we got to her a little bit and stayed with the game plan all night."

On Gina Mancuso's Serving
"She has been doing that all year, she gets these runs. How it ends is she usually misses. This happened last weekend as well. She has a great serve and seems to put a lot of points in that rotation. Her serve sets it up and that has been happening all year."

Sydney Anderson
On keeping focus during this game, trying not to repeat what happened in Lincoln
"We actually said something about that after our first game. We did really well, but after that game, we came into the huddle saying we were down 0-1 in our minds. We were going to play that way. We reminded our team that this is exactly what happened in Lincoln. We're not going to let it happen again."

Lindsey Licht
On playing in such dominant form tonight
"(It's) just going out there and doing my job, trusting what I can do, trusting my teammate and trusting myself. (I) just go out there and do what I know how to do. I have to stay sharp when I am on the bench. I see myself going out there and making big plays for my team. Sydney (Anderson) helps me out with that. I owe it to them for coming out and playing hard."

Iowa State Post-Match Quotes
Head Coach Christy Johnson-Lynch
Opening Statement
"I thought we ran into a really hot team right now. Nebraska's playing really well. We knew that coming in. I thought they played almost flawless tonight. We certainly lost the serve and pass game. I thought that was pretty lopsided. They seemed like when they were in system, the ball was going right to the setter every time, making it very difficult to our block. While we tended to pass the ball off the net, it became pretty predictable in our offense. I thought that part of the game was pretty lopsided. We're certainly very disappointed in how we played, but the message to our players that we talked about is, while you might be disappointed in how you played tonight or in how the team played, you got us here. You've had an incredible season, finishing second in the Big 12 - one of the toughest conferences in the country - getting us a top-10 ranking, getting us a No. 7 seed in the tournament, getting a host first and second round, those things have been remarkable. I don't want us to judge our season on one match. Although we might be disappointed, we have to be so proud and excited about what we've done this year. We know the sun will come up tomorrow and we're looking forward to continuing to build our program."

On NU's chances tomorrow against Texas
"Well, if they play like that, I think they have a very good shot. Texas recently changed their system, so I think they're still trying to figure that out and smooth things out, but Texas is incredibly athletic. With those kind of athletes, you don't necessarily have to be perfect. You don't necessarily have to pass the ball right to target, you can still score offensively. But if Nebraska can serve and pass like they did tonight, they'll be able to hang with anybody in the country, whether it's Texas or anybody. They played pretty flawless tonight."

On Kaylee Mann's career
"I've said this a lot over the past couple of weeks, I'm not sure there is any other setter that we could have recruited that's done what Kaylee has done. I say that because she was not the most highly talented setter, the most highly recruited setter out of high school, but for us she was the perfect setter because she was a great athlete, someone we could train, but most importantly she wasn't afraid to compete. It didn't matter the situation, we could be playing the gold-medal Olympic team, and I think she would still believe we could beat them. That's the kind of person we needed coming in and running the offense as we were getting this program going. That takes a pretty special and unique personality. I don't know there were many people who could have done what she did. She was the right person for the job."

Ashley Mass
On what it's like to get digs against Nebraska
"It's awesome. Playing a team like Nebraska with huge girls who hit very hard, just playing them and digging balls against them is awesome."

On next season
"I think we have a lot of potential next season, bringing back most of our team. I think we have a chance to continue building the program and becoming better."

Victoria Henson
On next season
"I think we're going to be really good next year. Probably even better, although we're losing Kaylee Manns, who is an amazing setter, but I think Alison (Landwehr) is going to step up and help our team out a lot in a big way. We'll be pretty good next year."

Kaylee Manns
On looking back on her career
"Of course this isn't the way I wanted to end my last game, but I just hope I've left all the girls with something to look up to, something to do better and keep bettering the program every year. We didn't exactly do that this year, but things are still going great and the program is still building and I hope I left something and I hope they remember how this feels so they don't let it happen to them next year."

On what held back ISU's offense tonight
"They did awesome. When you're playing a team for a third time, you start knowing what they're going to do. Blockers start seeing who is hot and going for those hitters. Nebraska did a great job. They're well coached. All of the girls did a great job in knowing what we were going to do in a lot of situations."

On playing in Omaha tonight
"I would say the crowd would have been the biggest factor when I was trying to talk to the hitters and figuring out to change to a different kind of hit. It was hard to hear them, but I thought the crowd was outstanding, and we love being the underdog. I know none of us were nervous. We were all really excited and really anxious to start the game. I think Nebraska played awesome."
