Lincoln - Nebraska's primary performers on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball in 2009 were awarded with NSCAA All-Central Region honors as freshman forward Morgan Marlborough earned a spot on the Second Team and senior Carly Peetz was named to the Third Team, announced this week by the league office. The teams are chosen by a vote of select coaches from the Central Region.
Marlborough is adding to a list of accomplishments and honors during a standout freshman season, most notably earning recognition as the Big 12 Offensive Player and Rookie of the Year. The Lee's Summit, Mo., native led the conference in scoring with 21 goals and added seven assists (49 points), totals that rank fourth and fifth on the NU single-season goal chart. She ended the regular season tied for third in the NCAA in goals and points and was recently named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com All-Rookie First Team.
Also an All-Big 12 selection, Peetz' NSCAA All-Central Region honor is her second in a row. The Lincoln, Neb., native was one of the best defenders in the Big 12 Conference this season while also showcasing her offensive skill with four goals and three assists. She started all 79 games of her NU career, a total that ranks eighth on the all-time chart.
Since the program's inception in 1994, Nebraska has had at least one player named to the NSCAA All-Central Region Team 13 times. Peetz is the first Husker defender to earn multiple honors since Brenna Boyd was a three-time All-Central Region selection from 2000 to 2002.
