Well the path wasn’t as you probably would have predicted it, but 9-3 and a Big XII title game appearance was what many thought was the logical “next step” for this football program. Sure, you might have chalked up a win against IowaState...and maybe even a loss to Oklahoma...but Nebraska took the unconventional path to this solid season.
Win or lose today it’s been a great year. Nebraska can win this game though. It will take incredible execution and relentless energy but I’ve seen this team do that before. The recipe isn’t any different against Texas than it was against Kansas, Kansas State, or Colorado. Run the football, don’t turn it over, play incredible defense, and win the field position battle. Its common math and probability; make them go 80 + yards every time while you only need to go 55 yards and you’ll have a good chance to win.
How about this Rex Burkhead? My dad told me he reminds him of a guy with the last name Riggins. Pretty big comparison huh? He isn’t fancy. He isn’t flashy. He plants that outside foot, turns up field, and makes you earn every tackle as a defender. I love that about the kid. He’s a true throwback. We need more kids like him in big-time athletics.
Cherish these last two games. Cherish them because they will be the final times you get to see Ndamukhong Suh in a Husker uniform. You may never see another one like him again.
How good is Texas? Pretty good, but let’s not crown them just quite yet. They aren’t incredibly balanced on offense. That’s a problem against this Blackshirt defense. They gave up 39 points to Texas A&M. That should give the offense some hope.
It can happen. Believe.
