Pre-Big 12 Championship Game vs. Texas
On what Texas does well
“Everything. They do everything well. They’re a very well-balanced offense. They obviously like to pass the ball a little bit more having great receivers, (Jordan) Shipley being one of the standout receivers in that corps. I don’t really see a problem in their offense. They can pretty much do anything. Obviously they have a mobile quarterback who can hurt you. It’s going to be a big challenge, something I feel that this defense is definitely up for.”
On how good Colt McCoy is
“He’s one of the best out there. Obviously he’s up for the Heisman and is doing everything to deserve that and continues to do that, stays consistent. That’s one of the biggest things, he doesn’t really falter. You’ve just got to hopefully catch him on a bad day and get in his face to disrupt him.”
On how much fun it is to prepare for a game like this
“It’s a lot of fun. It’s a big game, I love playing in big games. I’m not saying that every other game is not any fun, but it’s a chance to play for a Big 12 championship, something I haven’t been able to do since 2006, which I’m very eager to do and have that opportunity. I think this team has obviously earned it by playing well in these last four or five games. I think we’re ready to go out there and challenge Texas.”
On the respect the defense has earned with four Huskers being named first-team All-Big 12
“I haven’t seen the list, but it means a lot. I feel that we’ve definitely been working hard. We just want to continue to prove ourselves. We’re definitely happy with obviously the accolades and everything, but it’s not done just because we got those. We’ve got to continue to play hard and move forward. You’ve got to prove it on the field between the white lines.”
On the importance of rushing four
“Being able to rush four and get pressure on the offense is huge. You can sit back, have two high safeties, and do different things with your coverage. You don’t always have to blitz and do different things. And that’s something that we pride ourselves on as a front four, is being able to get after the quarterback with just us. I think that’s more of a pride thing than anything. Obviously it helps your defensive coordinator to mix up and do different things that he wants to with the secondary.”
