Lincoln, Neb. -For the first time since the 1999-00 season, the Nebraska bowling program will host a tournament in Lincoln, Neb. The Big Red Invitational, held at Sun Valley Lanes located on 321 Victory Lane, will begin Thursday, Nov. 5, and continue through Saturday, Nov. 7.
Team introductions and the national anthem will commence at 6 p.m. on Thursday, with four 4-game Baker matches to follow immediately at 6:30 p.m. Competition will continue on Friday with five traditional team games beginning at 11:30 a.m. The tournament will conclude on Saturday after four more traditional team games beginning at 8 a.m. The awards ceremony will be held at noon on Saturday.
Admission for the three-day tournament is free and the first 100 Nebraska students to RSVP to the Facebook event and check-in at the marketing table on Thursday night will receive a free Big Red Invitational t-shirt. Thursday evening will also include appearances from Herbie Husker and the cheerleading squad.
Eight teams will compete in the tournament, including Vanderbilt, Central Missouri, Elmhurst, Minnesota State-Mankato, Prairie View A&M, Valparaiso, Arkansas State and Nebraska.
The Huskers last competed at the Greater Ozark Invitational in Springfield, Mo., on Oct. 24-25. NU placed seventh in the tournament, while Nebraska bower Cassandra Leuthold earned a third-place finish, individually.
The Nebraska bowling team has a rich history of winning and excellence. The Huskers have captured eight national championships, including the 2009 NCAA National Championship.
