On pinning Kansas State at its 1-yard line with a punt
“That one I thought was going in for a touchback, I didn’t think it was going to bounce right like I did. It’s what I’m trying to do, sometimes you have to get a good bounce here or there, too.”
On where he was aiming that punt to go out of bounds
“I was aiming between the 10 and the 5. We were directional a lot, so they (coaches) were just telling me to kick it out of bounds, so that’s kind of where I was going and it went a little bit left of that I think and took a right bounce.”
On how much of that is luck
“A good amount. You’ve got to put it in the right place and then hope you have the right...you can get different spins on the ball so it will bounce a certain way, but still it’s a little bit lucky.”
On how the season has gone after struggling at punting early
“Early on, I did. It was just something I was getting used to, getting comfortable out there with, so I wasn’t moving 1,000 miles per hour. But now it’s kind of something where I’ve just got to keep my technique. I still haven’t had the perfect game or anything like that. During the game, I left a few out there for him to return, so that was not what I really wanted to do.”
On how he remembers his 57-yard field goal last year to beat CU
“Not much really. It was just kind of a blur at the time when it happened, something I’ve seen a few times here in the past.”
On changing his punting technique midway through the year
“Yeah, I changed because I was a three-step punter. Now I’m a two-step punter. It’s just something that I worked with to get quicker. It’s a big change. It’s tough. When you’re used to doing something and then taking out a step, it’s really hard.”
