Session 6: Huskers Set for Big Final Session

Lincoln - The Huskers are in prime position to keep their lead and earn their second title in three years at the Husker Invitational after a strong preliminary session on Sunday morning at the Devaney Natatorium. The Huskers qualified 21 swimmers for the "A" finals, including six in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Kaitlin Arntz had Nebraska's fastest time in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing in 2:21.82, behind South Dakota State's Katie Budahl, who swam a time of 2:17.38. Kelsey Larson, Courtney Rhodenbaugh, Hailey Dean, Ashley Reiter and Bailey Bolinske also qualified for the "A" finals in the event.

Caroline Shea and Ellan Dufour led the way for the Huskers in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing second and third, respectively, behind Rice's Stephanie Wei. Also among the top 10 in preliminary times were Brandie Kavalec, Lydia Ridgeway and Karen Criss.

The Huskers also qualified five "A" finalists for the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard butterfly. Hayley Martin had the field's fastest time in the 100-yard freestyle (52.84) and Mariah Hutchinson led the field in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.52)

The divers also concluded the three meter dive after the swimming events last night. Tien Tran won her second diving title of the Invite with a score of 325.95 on the three meter board. D'Arcy Schmidt came in second for the Huskers with a score of 295.50, and Kaitlan Walker finished third with a score of 273.35.
