Huskers Sign Two Skilled Golfers for 2010

Nebraska men's golf coach Bill Spangler announced on Tuesday the signing of two high school golfers to National Letters of Intent. Josh Reinertson, a Gibbon, Neb., native, and Manuel Lavín de la Riva, from Mexico, will join the Huskers in 2010-11.

Reinertson is the younger brother of Husker freshman Jordan Reinertson. Josh Reinertson was the Class C state champion in 2007 as a freshman at Gibbon High School and finished second and fifth in 2008 and 2009, respectively.

Reinertson was also named the 2008 Nebraska Junior Amateur Golfer of the Year after winning the Nebraska Junior Match Play Championship that year. This summer, Reinertson was the runner-up at the Nebraska Junior Amateur Championship and tied for 10th at the Nebraska Men's Amateur.

"He's been the most consistent junior player in the state the last couple of years," said Spangler. "Great short game with excellent course management skills. These talents will let Josh adjust to the college game much quicker and allow him to be a contender for a top-5 spot immediately. I'm excited to have two Reinertsons on the team."

Lavín de La Riva is the first recruit from Mexico under Spangler. Lavín de La Riva competed for Club Campestre de Aguascalientes.

In the 15-18 year-old age group of the 2009 U.S. Teen World Golf Championship, Lavín de La Riva tied for ninth place with a 74.67 stroke average through three rounds. At the Children's Area Youth Center Tour, Lavín de La Riva placed third in the 16-18 year-old age group with a 74.38 stroke average over eight rounds of play. Competing at the 2007 Mexican Amateur Championship, Lavín de La Riva placed 25th with a 75.00 average over four rounds.

"A great ball striker with a good short game to match," Spangler said. "He approaches the game with a great attitude. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he ends up being an immediate impact player."
