Redshirt freshman Allison McNeal has worked hard to make contributions to a deep and talented middle blocking group. This season, McNeal has appeared in 11 matches for the Big Red, averaging 0.56 kills on .261 hitting and 0.44 blocks per set. She earned her first career start against UL-Lafayette, setting career bests in both kills (six) and blocks (four). She made her first Big 12 start this year, earning the starting nod against Texas Tech on Oct. 28. In high school, she was one of the nation’s top recruits after totaling nearly 1,000 kills and 500 blocks at Schulenburg High School, earning Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 honors.
What is the best piece of volleyball or sports-related advice you have received?
When I was having a hard time learning/playing volleyball as a kid, my dad told me to stick with it and work hard because it will pay off in the end. “It only matters if you try your best.”
What person has been your biggest volleyball influence?
I have always looked up to Tracy Stalls. She has great fundamentals, awesome personality, and an astounding presence on the court.
What got you involved in the sport of volleyball?
If it wasn’t for my older sister (Brittany) who used to force me to play with her as kids, I wouldn’t be playing today. She greatly influenced me to stick with it.
What advice would you give someone starting to play volleyball?
Don’t give up! Be patient and get as many reps as you can. Volleyball is very complicated, but can be very rewarding at the same time.
If you could play another sport at Nebraska, what would it be?
I would definitely high jump! I competed in high school and was 2A State Champion. I love high jumping.
What is your favorite volleyball moment?
The feeling when we beat Washington at Regionals in Seattle.
What is your favorite thing about being a Husker?
I am honored to be a part of such a great program. I love the fan support.
What is your favorite pre-match meal?
I love pasta with alfredo sauce and chicken. I am also a fan of yogurt and granola.
What is one thing that most Husker fans would not know about you?
I am the pickiest eater you will ever meet.
My hidden talent away from volleyball is?
I have some pretty sweet lip syncing abilities.
If you were bringing your teammates back to your hometown, where is the first place you take them?
Oakridge Express. We are gonna get some real barbeque and german sausage!!
