Huskers Take Fourth at Big Red Invitational

Lincoln - The Nebraska bowling team finished fourth at the first-annual Big Red Invitational bowling tournament. The Huskers earned a total pinfall of 12,132 over the three-day tournament, which took place at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, Neb. Nebraska senior Cassandra Leuthold cracked the all-tournament team with a second-place finish, rolling a 202.70 average on the tournament.

Central Missouri State took top honors with a total pinfall of 12,646, while Arkansas State placed second with a 12,562. Vanderbilt earned a third-place finish with a total pinfall of 12,521.

"Humility makes you stronger if it doesn't kill you," Nebraska Coach Bill Straub said of NU's fourth-place finish. "We were really grateful for the fans that came out to this tournament and for everyone involved. We also had a great support staff. We think this event ran real well."

NU redshirt freshman Kristi Mickelson was the only other Husker to crack the top-10 individual results with a 187 average and a total pinfall of 1,879.

NU was in fifth place consistently throughout the first two days of the Big Red Invite, but were able to push ahead of Valparaiso on day three to finish fourth overall.

Nebraska will have one-month break before heading to Jackson, Miss., for the Capital City Collegiate Classic on Dec. 4-6.
