Lincoln – The Nebraska football team took to the Hawks Championship Center for a 90-minute workout Monday afternoon in preparation for its Nov. 7 matchup against No. 20 Oklahoma.
The Huskers put in a hard workout while gearing up for the Sooners.
“We’re getting ready to go,” Nebraska Coach Bo Pelini said. “It’s early in the week. It’s the start of the week and it’s about putting in the hard work.”
Nebraska turned today’s focus to its running game, which will have a tough challenge going against an Oklahoma defense that ranks third nationally against the run.
“It’s always important,” Pelini said of the running game. “It’s something that’s been missing. Our consistency in the running game is something that’s been lacking and we need to get that stepped up.”
Both Nebraska and Oklahoma enter this weekend’s game with matching 5-3 records. Both teams feature strong defenses, as NU ranks fourth nationally in scoring defense while OU is eighth. The Sooners come to Memorial Stadium after a 42-30 win over Kansas State on Oct. 31.
While Husker freshman quarterback Cody Green helped Nebraska to a 20-10 win over Baylor last weekend, the starting quarterback against OU will not be named until later in the week as the quarterback competition heats up between Green and Zac Lee. Green is only the second true freshman to ever start at quarterback for Nebraska, while Lee started the first seven games of this season.
The Huskers will continue preparing for Oklahoma on Tuesday afternoon.
