Huskers Finish Fourth at Alamo Invite

San Antonio, Texas - Maddie Sheils posted the first top-10 finish of her collegiate career to lead five Huskers in the top 30 at the rain-shortened Alamo Invitational on Tuesday.

The Huskers finished fourth in the 12-team field with an 18-hole total of 302. The first and second rounds of the 54-hole tournament were canceled because of rain at the Briggs Ranch Golf Club on Monday.

Sheils, a sophomore from Boise, Idaho, led the Huskers with a one-over-par 73 on the 6,362-yard layout at Briggs Ranch on Tuesday to tie for 10th place. She took a bogey on her final hole, pushing her one shot out of a top-five showing. Sheils' 73 matched her career best, which she carded in the first and second rounds of the season-opening Chip-N Club Invitational at Wilderness Ridge.

Sheils helped lead a consistent effort across the board for the Huskers on Tuesday, as all five Nebraska golfers carded scores of 77 or better to finish among the top 30 in the 60-player field.

Sophomore Natalie Gleadall, who finished in the top 10 in each of Nebraska's first three fall tournaments, tied for 22nd with Husker senior Charlotte Wendner. Both Gleadall and Wendner notched rounds of 76, while senior JC Stevenson and freshman Erin Sharpee tied for 28th one shot back at 77.

Tennessee won the team title with an 18-hole total of 289, on Tuesday. Notre Dame and Texas A&M tied for second with scores of 292.

Mississippi and Wisconsin tied for fifth (303) in the final team standings, while Baylor, Oklahoma and the hosts from UTSA tied for seventh at 304 in a tight team race.

Tennessee's Nathalie Mansson and Notre Dame's Annie Brophy tied for the individual title with matching rounds of two-under-par 70. Wisconsin's Jessie Gerry finished alone in third at 71, while six golfers tied for fourth at 72. Sheils and two other golfers tied for 10th at 73.

Nebraska returns to action in Texas with The Challenge at Onion Creek in Austin, Texas, Nov. 2-3.
