Last week's win for Nebraska over nationally ranked Missouri was a big one, but the Huskers will play a better team this week in Texas Tech.
The Red Raiders have had some impressive moments early in the season. They battled Texas in Austin back in September and fought hard against nationally ranked Houston on the road. Mike Leach’s attack always seems to be revved up by mid-season and last week Tech hung 66 on Kansas State.
Tech has used two quarterbacks this season and both have been effective. Taylor Potts won the job in the spring, but he got hurt against New Mexico. In came a former walk-on in Steven Sheffield who proceeded to throw seven touchdown passes against K-State. Potts is expected back but the way Sheffield played he might stay on the bench.
With Tech it doesn’t seem to matter who the quarterback is because the offensive system is so sound. Tech’s quarterbacks are very accurate so the Nebraska defensive backs need to stay with the receivers much like playing man to man in basketball. Tackling will be a key in this game for Nebraska. If you miss with Tech it turns into a big play.
Last year in Lubbock the Huskers dominated the time of possession and doing that again this year is another key to this game. It’s hard to score when you don’t have the ball.
This game is scary because Tech isn’t as far down as some think and NU is coming off an emotional win over Missouri last week. Tech always seems to make things interesting and this Saturday should be more of the same.
