Pre-Missouri

On the relationship he developed with Blaine Gabbert during the recruiting process
“We became pretty good friends. I’d go to his place for a weekend, he’d come down to mine, we’d hang out, spend time with each other’s families, at the time talk about Husker football. But it ended up being something different, so no hard feelings.”<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

On getting a chance to hit him on Thursday
“I’d like to, but all during the game and all for competition.”

On how often they talked since Gabbert went to Missouri
“We talked a couple times last year and then this year, we texted and just told each other good job after the first game. He had a pretty good game so I thought I’d let him know he did a good job and stuff like that, and just see how things were going.”

On if he felt pressure to switch to Missouri after Gabbert did
“No, he didn’t try to pull me in, because he knew the situation. He didn’t really try to pull me a certain direction because of what was going on with both situations, but we both did our own thing.”

On what was different about the situation for him
“Just that when I was getting recruited by Nebraska still during the time of the coaching change, Coach Osborne just assured me they were going to get somebody in here I would like. I needed to have that patience and I committed here, so Nebraska deserved patience like that. I just had to wait to see who came in here and give them a chance. I didn’t have to commit until February so I wasn’t going to rush anything.”

On getting to face Missouri in his home state
“I’d like to play in Columbia every year if I could, and play in front of everybody that I know and talk to. But I definitely have higher emotions for this game. But I’m going to go about it like every other week of practice and prepare the way I do every week. It’s not going to be any different from that point of view, but as far as knowing I’m going to play in front of the people I know, it’s exciting.”
