Geibert, Weinstein Knocked Out of Riviera Tournament

Los Angeles, Calif. - The Nebraska women's tennis team sent two players to the pre-qualifying round of the Riviera All-American Championships in Los Angeles, Calif., over the weekend. Sophomore Madeleine Geibert and freshman Stefanie Weinstein both failed to reach the qualifying stages of the tournament, as each were knocked out in their second singles match after winning their first. The two teamed up in doubles play as well, but were eliminated in the first round.

Geibert beat San Diego's Juliette Coupez 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the first round of pre-qualifying play before falling to USC's Danielle Lao, 6-4, 6-1. Weinstein defeated UC-Santa Barbara's Michelle Murphy 7-6 (3), 6-3, then lost to Northwestern's Brittany Wowchuck, 6-0, 6-1.

"I was very proud of how the girls competed," Assistant Coach Hayden Perez said. "They fought hard and left it all on the court. That is all you can ask of them. The competition out here is the best in the country and for each to come away 1-1 in singles on the weekend was good.  These matches will only help them prepare for our Regional Championships just a few weeks away."

Nebraska sophomore Mary Weatherholt will compete in the Qualification Draw of the Riviera All-American Championships on Tuesday.
