Van Impe Advances at D?Novo Championships

Tulsa, Okla.--- The Nebraska men's tennis team had one player in action Saturday as the Huskers began play at the D'Novo ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. After a first round bye, Francois Van Impe took on Stephen Stege (UC Irvine) in the second round of the 256-player pre-qualifying bracket. Van Impe took the match from Stege 7-6 (2), 6-2, to advance.

Van Impe will take on Antonio Lastre (Miss. St.) on Sunday at 9 a.m. Laster defeated David Cavalcanti (Wichita St.) 6-4, 6-3, in the second round.

The five day event began with a 256-player pre-qualifying singles tournament that will run through Sunday, which then feeds into the 128-player and 64-doubles team qualifying tournaments on Oct. 5-7. The qualifying tournament feeds into the 64-player, 32-doubles team main draws on Oct. 8-11. Christopher Aumueller, David Bendheim and Calin Paar will begin play in the qualifying singles bracket, while Paar and Bendheim will be the only Husker doubles team to participate in the tournament, starting in the 64-team doubles bracket.
