Nebraska Player Quotes

Nebraska vs. Florida Atlantic
Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009
Memorial Stadium - Lincoln, Neb.

Defensive End Cameron Meredith<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

On his fumble recovery

“I was just playing my technique and then I saw that the snap was fumbled and then I just went after it. Tried to scoop it and score, but I just decided to recovery because I tried twice and it’s better to have the ball then for them to get the ball back.”

On how much the turnovers helped the defense today

“A lot. Turnovers are one of the biggest parts of the football game. Usually the team with the most turnovers wins.  It’s a big part of football.”

On if the coaches told him how many snaps he would get before the game

“No they didn’t tell me. They just told me I was going to get in and see how I did in the game in a real situation.  I expected to get in, but I guess that was a little bit more than I expected.”

Wide Receiver Curenski Gilleylen

On how he feels after a big-time game

“It feels really good to finally get out there and get to have some significant playing time.  I definitely went out there and showed what I could do.”

On how his game helps the team stretch the field with his speed

“I think that’s true of a lot of people in our crew.  I think we can try to stretch the ball and go down field.  I think we can use a lot of speed trying to go down the field like me, Niles (Paul), Antonio (Bell) and all those guys. We can definitely stretch the field and go deep and I think that’s going to be a plus coming up this year.”

Tight End Mike McNeill

On how it feels to get the first one under the belt

“It’s nice. I think it’s nice to have a pretty convincing win and still know that we made a lot of mistakes and we can improve.  A lot of people say they can’t improve after a 49-3 win, so it’s pretty good.”

On Zac Lee’s play and if he thought he looked comfortable

“I think he looked real comfortable.  I think he did a good job. He did a great job. We put up a lot of points and we ran the ball really well and that took some pressure off Zac.”

On if they want to maintain the same kind of balance in their offense throughout the season

”Yeah, I think we always want balance. I think you can pass the ball to set up the run and run the ball to set up the pass. That’s kind of how we do it and that’s what we’re hoping for every week.”

On his personal performance

“I played alright.  I dropped a big third down which was kind of disappointing, but overall it wasn’t too bad. I blocked alright and had some other catches. I was just happy we won.”
