Huskers in the NFL - Week 3

Lincoln - A total of 19 former Huskers saw action during Week 3 of the 2009 NFL season. Denver’s Correll Buckhalter eclipsed the 100-yard mark on the ground against Oakland, while Tampa Bay’s Barrett Ruud produced double-digit tackles for the second straight week.

Buckhalter continued to shine as he and rookie Knowshon Moreno combined for 198 yards and a touchdown for the 3-0 Broncos. Buckhalter’s 108 yards on just 14 touches gave him an average of 7.7 yards per carry against the Oakland defense. On the season, the former Husker I-back is slashing defenses for an average of 7.4 yards per carry, as he has produced 230 yards on just 31 attempts. Buckhalter’s 100-yard game was his first since Week 4 of the 2007 season.

For the second straight week and for the third time in his career, Ruud totaled a career-high 14 tackles. Ruud and the rest of the Buccaneers’ defense did their part to hold Eli Manning to just 161 yards through the air, but the Tampa offense was never able to get going as they only produced 86 yards of total offense in a 24-0 loss.

Getting the start at cornerback for the second straight week, Chicago’s Zack Bowman came up big in a 25-19 win over the Seattle Seahawks. Bowman led the way for the Bears’ defense with a career-high nine tackles, all solo. The former Blackshirt deflected a pass, one of eight batted balls that the Bears had against quarterback Seneca Wallace.
