At the conclusion of the first round of the Fairway Club Invitational on Monday afternoon, the Nebraska men's golf team is in second place with a team score of 282 (-6), three strokes behind the leader, Drake.
Andrew Wyatt led NU with a four-under-par 68, tying him for first place with Drake's Ben Freeman. The 68 matches Wyatt's career low, which he set last March at the Desert Shootout.
A total of four Huskers are among the top 10 in the 72-player field. Mike Coatman finished the first 18 holes with a 70, tying him for fourth place. Scott Willman and Brett Nymeyer shot 71 each, putting them in a tie for seventh place. Nymeyer is playing as an individual in his first career tournament as a Husker and does not count toward the Huskers' team score. Neil Dufford, also playing his first tournament for NU, is tied for 21st with a 73.
Conditions on the course were perfect throughout the morning, but the round still took around 5-1/2 hours to complete. Check Huskers.com Monday night for complete results for the first 36 holes.
