Four Reasons Why NU-ASU Is A Big Game

Nebraska vs. Arkansas State ? it doesn’t scream huge game. You won’t see ESPN’s Game-Day crew in Lincoln. You probably won’t hear anyone nationally break this game down.

This game, however, is a big deal here.

Nebraska had a nice 49-3 showing over Florida Atlantic last weekend. Bo Pelini, though, made it very clear he didn’t think the team performed at the level he expects the Huskers to perform. If they play that way again, the score won’t be 49-3. It will be more like the 35-12 Husker win over San Jose State a year ago.

Nebraska needs to fix mistakes and turn its game up to another level on Saturday, and it will because Bo Pelini made sure this team was focused all week in practice.

When Bo isn’t happy ? trust me, this team isn’t happy either, so I believe they’ll put together a complete performance against the Red Wolves.

I think there are four good reasons why Nebraska-Arkansas State matters. It’s “a big deal” because:

1)     It’s the game before Virginia Tech, and this team needs to build confidence before going on the road for the first time.

2)     Consistency ? great teams have it.

3)     Our young players need to continue to learn how to win and

4)     It’s a football game at Memorial Stadium, and we all know that every game here is a big deal.

You’ve no doubt heard about Alex Carrington, Corey Leonard, Reggie Arnold and handful of other prominent players for Arkansas State.

I could break the Red Wolves down for you.

But this game, in my opinion, is all about Nebraska.
